DESCRIPTION |
The Texas Map Society was founded in November 1996 at the University of Texas at Arlington to support and foster study, understanding and collecting of historical maps and cartography. The society sponsors two meeting a year and publishes a newsletter, The Neatline, for the enlightenment and enjoyment of its members and the general public. The society’s meetings include presentations by map collectors, scholars, and enthusiasts, as well as tours of map facilities around the state, workshops on preservation and conservation concerns, and a general sharing of interests and expertise by members. Our membership and their collecting interest are diverse, and not restricted to Texas residents. We count members from across the country who are collectors, academics, librarians and archivists, dealers, students and others who love maps in our group. In the fall we usually meet at The University of Texas at Arlington, and then in the spring, we select a destination somewhere else in Texas and occasionally out of state |
