On these pages 'Map Society' is defined as any organisation that is active in the field of the history of cartography (i.e. that is concerned, in some way, with non-current maps). Such 'societies' will usually organise talks or meetings, and may publish a journal or newsletter. Most welcome non-members to their meetings.
Map Societies around the World was created by William C. Barrow in 1997 at the Cleveland State University Library. From December 2005 through December 2010 it was managed by Peter van der Krogt, of Utrecht University. Starting in December 2010 it is managed by James Speed Hensinger.
