Chartarum Amici is a society (club) of friends of old maps. It was founded in Helsinki in March 1964 by 14 persons interested in old maps. Now there are about 80 members. The majority of the members are map-collectors, but there are also librarians, researchers, map-dealers and others. Chartarum Amici has had 2-3 meetings annually - often held in places with map-historic interest. In 1985 Chartarum Amici organised the International Map Collectors symposium in Helsinki. Presidents of the society have been: Mr Osmo Kiikka (founder, 1964-1970), Mr Aarno Piltz (1973-1986), Dr Sakari Härö (1970-1973 & 1986-1992), Mr Erik Vihtol (1992-1997), Mrs Leena Miekkavaara (1997--) and secretaries Mr Aarno Piltz (1964-1973), Dr Kalevi Somer (1973-1984), Mr Jan Strang (1984--). |
