DESCRIPTION | PHIMCOS was conceived in 2007 when a group of five cartophiles discussed forming the first Philippine club of map and print collectors to generate increased interest and appreciation for the collection and study of maps and prints. It has since grown to 23 members. PHIMCOS has held exhibits, such as the ones in the Metropolitan Museum of Manila and in the Yuchengco Museum in Makati. More activities such as exhibits and publications are in the pipeline. The primary purpose of PHIMCOS is to provide a formal institutional medium for the collection, study, understanding, teaching, improvement, promotion, appreciation, use, preservation and advancement of maps, prints or cartography (both historical and contemporary, particularly of the Republic of the Philippines), map production, utilization, and exchange of cartographic products, information and ideas among members, various map societies and organizations. PHIMCOS endeavors to do so by preserving, disseminating, initiating, sponsoring, assisting and managing programs, projects, conferences and symposia. |
